Doing Couples Therapy with a Little Help from Winnicott

This seminar explores Winnicott’s ideas regarding the importance of aggression in emotional development. We will apply these ideas to couple’s therapy, using Winnicott’s vision to assess each individual’s functioning regarding aggression. Based on the results, implications for conjoint treatment will be explored through clinical examples. Upon registration, two short papers will be sent to participants to read before the seminar.

PRESENTER BIO:

David Wayne has been in private practice for the past forty-three years. He first trained in systems theory; interacting first hand with the likes of Manuchin, Satir, Haley, Watzlawick, and Bowen. Since training in psychoanalysis, he has taught basic and advanced courses in the writings of Winnicott for the past twenty-eight years in the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute doctoral program. He served as Dean of Education at NPI for ten years.
